Vintage Weight Ads

Women have been looking for quick fixes to get the “ideal” body for a very long time. There’s all sorts of creams, pills, shakes, and whatnot. Needless to say, companies have made a fortune appealing to the insecurities of women since the invention of weight control products.

And this has been going on for a long time too! We have been striving to change our figures for YEARS and YEARS, always something new and improved to give us that perfect shape! But what is this standard that we are trying to reach?! It seems like it’s always unattainable. Well, perhaps that’s because the definition keeps changing over time.

Here’s a little something to blow your mindhole:

That’s right people! Gain weight! Not too long ago, women wanted to pack on the pounds! “Stop being skinny and tired!” I love it! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not encouraging us to all start gorging ourselves to gain “healthy pounds and inches.” There’s an obesity epidemic in America and that’s not to be taken lightly. But for those of you out there who are looking at today’s ads for super skinny women and using products that promise all sorts of magical results “in just 2 weeks!” consider why you are doing it. It wasn’t too long ago that being curvy and buxom was the ultimate standard of beauty. But trends change and companies always want to make money, so they will sell you products to tell you how to improve yourself until the end of time.

How about we strive for what’s healthy instead of what’s “beautiful for now?” Strive to see yourself in the mirror and say “lookin’ good!” instead of seeing a list of things to fix. Because whatever the ads are telling your is beautiful is just going to change, but you’re still going to be you. And that is something to be proud of!
