I have been a fan of red lipstick for a while…on other people – NOT myself. For me, trying bright red lips was scary and maybe too daring to wear in public. For those who know me, I am quite conservative, never really wearing plunging necklines, mini skirts, etc. I mean, red lips really scream sex! When you think of all the big bombshells in movies – they are always wearing red lipstick (Jessica Rabbit, anyone?!).
Besides playing with makeup when I was younger and wearing it for dance recitals (and even that was like a plum color), I had never put on RED lipstick until I was asked to be “model” for a segment on WLUK FOX 11′s Living with Amy about a year ago. The segment was all about red lipstick. Fun (?) fact: the white shirt I was wearing was not my own…it belonged to the makeup artist. Well, OOPS, I accidentally got lipstick on her shirt when I was taking it off. I won’t say whether or not she was happy (some heavy head shaking – chin shoulder to shoulder)…but it was an honest accident by a novice lipstick-wearer!
I have to credit Miss Kyla for breaking me into the red rouge world. When we were taking the picture for our website, she pulled out this new tube of lipstick – bright red! We all applied and passed the stick down the line. After we wrapped those pictures, we kept the lipstick on and had a meeting. During that meeting, we all continually complimented one another about how awesome red lipstick made them look! That’s when it hit me – I need to throw out my scaredy pants and embrace the red …in public!
My officemate, Anna, whom I have mentioned time and time again in these posts (you can tell I spend a lot of time at work), found an article online talking about the top ten best lipsticks. Rimmel Moisture Renew was on the list. It comes in a metallic purple container and has a CROWN (a huge selling point for this princess) on the end of the cap. So, I purchased Rimmel Moisture Renew in the color RED ALERT (Note: The color swatch on the website does not look like the actual color. See picture to the right for a better idea of what it looks like. It does have blue undertones).
Now, most lipsticks I have worn in my life smell like…well…lipstick! Moisture Renew smells very good, almost like vanilla. It goes on effortlessly and makes your lips super soft (a huge plus). Plus, it has a SPF 18! I really feel like this lipstick lasts a long time and it never feels dry. In fact, I would say it feels more like a lip gloss than lipstick, but don’t worry…unlike lip gloss, this lipstick maintains its color longer.

I tried red lipstick (MAC’s Russian Red to be exact) for the first time in my life a few months ago & I loved it. I’ll try this brand next time. Thanks!
I love MAC products. I have several different shades of their lipstick, but none that are red. I will have to give it a try next time
Let us know what you like about Russian Red and send us a pic of you and your red lips and we will post it on our Facebook page!
